Mixed bag?

To start with I had a great time regardless of bike. Great crew, good weather, just being at the track, yada, yada, yada.

So far as the bike goes. Everything on the Gix worked as advertised including the seller's estimate of 2 track days being left in the tires. No issues with the bike at all other than needing to come up with a better way of securing the tail than wire ties :-)

The Gix does not transition as well as the SV. The SV would tip in quicker but it would move around a lot more once in the turn. The Gix was pretty stable once you got it into the turn. The suspension on the Gix is actually more plush. But the additional effort to muscle it into turns is pretty obvious as is just the physcial difference in size. Shit, I'm still sore all over.

The biggest difference of course is the power and power delivery. The Gix is gutless below about 10k. The SV would pull happily from 3k. Where the SV ran out of breath the Gix is just starting to wake up. The other thing is the lack of v-twin engine braking. I sort of think this is why I was parking 1 and to a lesser degree 10 all day. Where I could roll off on the SV and pretty much just set the brake I really had to think about it with the Gix. Thinking about it kept me from doing other things like getting my body position right for the turn. Toward the end of Sunday Kaley suggested just double down shifting in one shot and then sort of slipping the clutch and feathering the brake as I got into 1 which seemed to start coming together. I tried this in the last session and I got sort of smooth with it though I ran like 3 to 4 seconds off my pace from earlier in the day in the process? I'm sure with time that will come as well.

Having had the opportunity to now ride an I4 at the track I'm reasonably happy with the change from the SV. The SV is an increadibly under rated bike. Its a blast to toss around the track where it feels so much lighter and smaller than the Gix. They both have thier merits and they are very different to ride. All in all I'm glad I made the change but I'll always miss the SV.
