I know, heresy but it's the only way I can get the ball and chain on a bike so...
I was thinking about finding a used busa or zx14 and slapping some hard bags, heli-bars, taller windscreen, etc. on it and calling it a touring bike. The other option is to try to find something like a zzr1200 or a sprint st, etc.
All of this depends on 2 things, getting the 675 running (without spending a fortune) and then selling the gix.
Any other bikes I should look at? Need to be used and reasonably cheap...

They may not be sporty enough if you are looking for a busa or zx-14, but if it were me I would be looking at some of the following bikes:
-Yamaha FZ1 -Suzuki Bandit 1200 -Kawasaki Concours (one of the new ones in the last year or so, not the old body style) -Yamaha FJR1300
They are all sporty and have some power, but also put comfort and road miles into the equation during design.
Just my .02. Good luck with whatever you get.

In this order of sportiness other than the Busa with bags......
Sprint Concours (I'm with Nate on the new ones) FJ1300 Viffer
I don't know if you can call an FZ1 or Bandiot a sport tourer but I'd take the FZ1 over a Bandit if buying used.
Next bike for me? DR650SE dropped an inch. I've explored a good many decent pavement roads with the 500 now it's time for the iffy ones and unpaved.

I've been keeping an eye on zzr1200's - zed's is pretty sweet and i would not mind doing something along those lines. I'm half tempted to get a hold of John (Phatty) and see if he wants to sell his, not like he's riding the damn thing... I am somewhat partial to the Sprint ST. I need to ride one to see what I think. I don't want to shell out the coin for either a newer Connie or FJR though both are nice. I'd like to keep this at 6 or less. Bill, I looked as the Sprint you PM'd. It's a nice bike but I have to sort out the 675 100% and unload the Gix first - life is just about no fun.

I know, life isn't much fun. believe me I feel you there. If I had the money and wanted a sport tourer I'd be on that one or if I wanted a mid sized sportbike I'd be on Kyle's bike he has for sale. Actually, the best fitting sporty type bike for me I looked at recently (meaning today) is the leftover 919 Honda Seltzer's has but alas, I have no available funds for another bike right now. I don't fit right on the SV650S but fit ok on the N or Gladius (hich looks gay).
Hey call over to Catalano's in Clearfield. They had a ZZR1200 for awhile they were advertizsing early this year. It might still be there. I looked at the ZX11 at Unlimited, it's nice but not $5200 nice.
I got a good look at the Kawasaki ER6N today..... kinda fugly in person. I'm rambling......

I saw the ZX11 today too - I was there to pick up my part. They had a sweet ST1300 but over my budget right now and it's porbably too far to the touring side of the world. BTW, the 675 is even worse for shorter guys than the SV. The seat is way up there, I cannot flat foot mine.

Well, then the 675 is out. I'm almost ready to give up on the dual sport too unless I do find I'm comfortable on the Suzuki.
Just got done looking at Sprints on Ebay ( dammit Mike!). There is one on there for $4500 in New Oxford, hardbags and all. Maybe I'll look at a Triumph this spring if I'm still employed. Unlimited has a Speed 4, kinda a Speed triple look with with the old TT600 mechanicals. I like it, but not willing to give up my 4 wheeler for it.

Did you see the ZRX there? Again, way overpriced but I would not mind having one.

Yeah, I saw it. I would like one of those too, I'm a standard kinda guy. All there used stuff, IMO, is all overpriced. I wonder how much he would be willing to deal on stuff. I bet that ZX11 has been there a year maybe 2 easy. 07 BMW F800S.......... Not sexy or fast but would probably make a decent running around bike. I don't think I'd want to do a track day on it. http://www.hermys.com/camera/P4280009.JPG
