Sort of thinking about picking up a truck, was looking at the big Toyota's, they seem to be dealing on them pretty hard right now.
Anyone think all of this recall BS is a big deal or just a tempest in a tea pot?

I told the wife when they started offering the 0% for 5 years that if we hadn't paid off our Xterra 2 months ago, then i'd be buying a new Tacoma.

I haven't heard any problems with the trucks and I think 3/4 of the reports are new just people jumping on the bandwagon. Plus half of these idiots forget that they can bump it into neutral and pull the e-brake...DUH!

I agree with Tib, just people looking for someone to blame. I would still buy one.

I wouldn't either and to disagree with tib after a certain speed the transmission locks not allowing to shift to neutral. The latest one our in CA tried it and he couldn't. I believe some of the trucks are on the recall list

Plus I wouldn't put it past insurance companies to say you knew they were having a problem at the time and you still made the purchase and fight not to pay a claim if something were to happen.

hmm I didn't hear that. I would figure that they wouldn't lock out or at least any automatic i've owned haven't had that feature.

I would still buy one, I think alot of these recent claims are now just people jumping on the bandwagon to be heard. Every automaker at one time or another have had big recalls...anyone remember the fords with gas tanks that in an accident would blow up...I think it was the pinto??...eventually they'll have a 100% fix and they'll be selling vehicles cheap for awhile to make up for it...which is good for the consumer.

IMO, this goes beyond just mechanical issues. I said no for reasons in addition to the mechanical problems. I worked on Toyotas for many years as a professional auto tech so know they can be good and bad.

But... I still believe in supporting American companies. Yes, I don't agree with the union bs. And I know that many foreign companies have plants here (I drove past a few to jennings). But, if the us manufacturing dries up, we truly are SoL and have no viable goods to make.

I bought Ford because they didn't acceept a bailout and they deserved my business. No import makes a full size van (dodge and freightliner sell the mercedes) which fit my needs and I also did not buy for reasons already stated.

I've owned one foreign car in my life and won't do so again.

That's a tough one Mike. I'm sure you're looking for a towing vehicle for the trailer so you need to also consider that you may be loaded up with bikes (maybe even someone elses), gear & goods, and the trailer itself if you do experience some sort of malfunctioning equipment with the truck and putting it all at risk also. I would say that the odds of it happening are pretty slim but ya never know. I suppose if you had a great deal on one and no issues have surfaced with the trucks you would probably be OK with it. But I would be sure to drive it a lot and under some stressful situations before loading everything up and heading out for a trip.
I can tell you that after having my GMC 2500HD towing a loaded trailer is much easier and better handling than my full size Blazer was. It's amazing how much of a difference there is with a vehicle that was built for the task. I wouldn't doubt that it would be the same scenario with your Durango to a big Toyota. I don't know if the Toyota's have a similar set up but the GMC's Tow/Haul mode and manual trans. mode are awesome to have when hauling a load.
