Spiegler SS brake lines

I had 2 thoughts when I first saw these brake lines; #1 Damn they look short, #2 Why are they both the same length? The right line runs straight down the fork leg and the left has to run from the right to the left of the bike.

My suspension was out 3.5 weeks, about a week longer than I anticipated. I tried to get as much other stuff done to the bike while it was up on stands going no where. I installed the lines, and even tried to bleed them, but it was a PITA without the forks and front wheel installed.

I was pretty psyched when my suspension showed up on Thursday. I went out to the garage Thursday night after work and got busy installing the forks. Sure enough those damn lines were too short. :-x

I've used Galfer and Goodridge lines in the past. They always had a shorter line for the right and a longer line for the left. They also always had a decent amount of slack when installed. Based on this, I didn't think I'd have an issue with the Speiglers, even with the fork extenders. Apparently Speigler sets their lines up pretty tight. Even the right side is too short to fit with the extenders (the extenders are only 14-15mm longer than stock) so I'm wondering if the left would even fit without the extenders.

I'm trying to head down to CMP on Thursday, so this has turned into a big fire drill! I ordered a custom set of lines (+60mm) from Speigler on Friday morning. They are to be delivered tomorrow. So hopefully I can get them installed and bled tomorrow after work. Nothing's easy!!!

I have a hard time imagining that Spiegler would be popular or even sell if their lines were always too short. Are you sure you got the right parts? I can understand them being tight, but you said that they didn't even seem to fit even if the suspension was stock.

I do feel like I got screwed in this deal. Just not sure yet, what (if anything) I'm going to do about it. I got the custom lines yesterday, installed, and bled them. I measured them against the other lines and they seem to be +67 mm instead of +60 mm. This leads me to believe the originals may be 7 mm's shorter than they should be? I believe Spiegler makes all of their lines to order, so all it would take is for them to be cut in error, a little shorter than they should be. I may try to send them back to Spiegler to see if they will credit me if they determine the lines were cut too short in error. They probably would not have worked well with the extenders regardless...

Did you buy them directly from Spiegler or from a reseller (STG?)
