Wow, I might be screwed with my current set up. I took a ride tonight since it was warm and sunny and put the setting on r3 and playback is just not happening. I then tried converting the file to .avi to see if that made any difference, but got the same results; it looks like a bunch of still frames in a slideshow.

My PC is running xp on a pentium 4, 2.8ghz with only 504mb of RAM. I have no idea what kind of video card I have. And I think that's the problem. But I'm really not wanting to buy a new one at this point just to have HD footage.

What would happen if I just uploaded to YouTube as is? Would it play smoothly for everyone else?

Madski your vids on the Jennings thread look amazing! I wish there was a dummy guide to getting the footage off the gopro and posted like you did.

You will likely need more horsepower to reasonably work with full HD files. You can just upload directly to YouTube but the videos have to be under 10 minutes and you can't really edit.
You can always step it down to SD and use it that way.

I had the same problem as you. I just hooked the camera to a HD tv and the video played great. I have to use my girlfriend MAC to edit them.

Yeah I just tried playback on my sister's beefier pc and it worked perfectly. Looks like I'll have to use her machine to edit and then upload to youtube. That's a bummer about the 10 minute limit though.

Hey Madski, is it possible for you to post up a quick run down of the steps you took to get that footage up on YouTube looking so good?

I tried taking a raw test file of a street ride, triming it with a free program called Avidemux and loading it up to youtube and it looks like garbage. I tried R3 and R5 modes.

I guess my specific questions are, what editing program did you use (you mentioned CS3, CS4 but then said you'd probably use DVD Maker)? Did you have to convert the raw file before editing? Did you add any image stabilization or anything like that? And then what format did you upload the vid to YouTube in?

I used DVD Maker (the one that comes with Windows 7) and exported the files in full HD as wmv. Then I just uploaded them to YouTube. I think VIsta (maybe XP) users can download it free from MS too.
I've done it with CS4 as well. CS3 does not like the AVC1 codec the camera uses. I think you may be able to use the movie maker program on Mac too.

Also, it takes a long time for YouTube to process the videos and make them available as HD. At first they come up looking like shit.

Post a link to one?

I pulled them down, I'll load one back up and post the link when its complete.

Well I'll have to fool around with it. Maybe just all the bumps from a surface street make the footage a bit more distorted compared to a smooth track. Is Jennings smooth? The gauges look fine, its just everything else seems to be "pixel-ey" to me.

That's what my buddy is saying too on his pc. I wonder if its my computer? Its just weird because this dude's looks so much better:

I realize its different footage, but I don't know. He used Sony Vegas to do his editing, they have a trial version, maybe I'll give that a shot when I get some track footage.
