I thought I read the PB unit was rated at like 69 or 70 db. I read some reviews of a smaller UST and they were not impressive, citing reliability concerns.

I may just save up and get a smaller Honda and let my stable mate fend for himself. :biglaugh:

That's the one Matt and I have - like I said earlier no real issues and it's actually "reasonably" quiet. For like $175 it's really hard to go wrong....
It does fine with one set of warmers (I have Woodcraft digitals).

M,
Thanks for the linkage, I will keep that one in mind. I am going to check the local HD to see what they have in stock also. On another note I found this db level chart interesting.

Decibel level What we hear
10 dB Normal breathing
20 dB Rustling leaves, mosquito
30 dB Whisper
40 dB Stream, refrigerator humming
50-60 dB Quiet office
50-65 dB Normal conversation
60-65 dB Laughter
70 dB Vacuum cleaner, hair dryer
75 dB Dishwasher
78 dB Washing machine
80 dB Garbage disposal, city traffic noise
84 dB Diesel truck
Prolonged exposure to any noise above 85 dB can cause gradual hearing loss.
70-90 dB Recreational vehicle
88 dB Subway, motorcycle
85-90 dB Lawnmower
100 dB Train, garbage truck
97 dB Newspaper press
98 dB Farm tractor
Regular exposure of more than 1 minute risks permanent hearing loss.
103 dB Jet flyover at 100 feet
105 dB Snowmobile
110 dB Jackhammer, power saw, symphony orchestra
120 dB Thunderclap, discotheque/boom box
110-125 dB Stereo
110-140 dB Rock concerts
130 dB Jet takeoff, shotgun firing
145 dB Boom cars

I have the same genny, it was delivered on Friday. It's out in the driveway running as I type this. Noise level doen't seem to bad at all, don't think I could get away with running it at night though. But with a long enough cord it won't bother anyone in the paddock.

I've got the same model and also have a long cord for it. At one point when I was at NJMP I knew it was getting close to running out of gas and I had to ask the people around me not to talk for a second so I could hear if it was still running. It's not bad at all with all the other noise at the race track. I will bet that someone close to you at the track will have a louder The only problem I had was on Sat morning at NJMP, the temp was in the upper 30's / lower 40's and it would stall if I plugged both warmers in. I let it run with just the front warmer on during the riders meeting and plugged both in after the meeting and didn't have any problems for the next two days. I think the genny just needed to warm up a bit before it could handle both warmers. It would really be nice to have one that was powerful enough to run two sets though...

Never!

There was a guy pitted close to me at NJMP who's genny crapped out and it would have been nice to be able to help him out. Also, if you're heading to a TD with a friend, you'd only have to pack 1 genny instead of 2. I do like the one I have though. It's pretty quiet, light, compact and hard to beat for the money!

I went (pre)shopping today for generators. I found out Northern Tool has the All Power 3250w on sale Friday for $199. I am going to drop the hammer and get one. It is rated at 68 db, not much louder than the ones you guys are snagging off eBay. Here is a link from Sportsmans Guide cuz it has most of the specs on it. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/all-power-3250w-generator.aspx?a=463533&pn=4 Thanks guys for all the pointers and clues! 2500w continuous power, I should be able to run 2 sets of warmers and a couple of fans.

Questions for you people who have purchased the Made in China generators.

At the carburetor, the mixture screw is glued in place and won't allow adjustment. Is yours that way too?

Reason I ask is mine will only start with the choke ON, no matter how long it has been running or what the weather is, hot or cold.. Is yours that way too?
