Not on hte track bike but.... Just riding along, went to pass a few cars on the R1, pulled back into the lane and went to shit up and SNAP - no shifter.... Pulled over with the bike in 5th. Used the POS pliers from the tool kit to shift it into second so I could limp home. Luckely only about 8 miles. $50 to replace the damn piece of shit and no bike till Friday. Sux (on top of sitting here when most of the rest of you bastards are Summit).

the reason i posted this here (not on my track bike) is because I think this is an inherent issue with the Vortex design for the 07/08 R1. They offset the shift rod to go around the frame as opposed to going through the frame like OE or some of the other companies. They provide a longer bolt and a plastic bushing to attach the rod to the shit arm about 2" further out than OE. This creates a lot of rotational force on the arm for which it is not designed and thus I think this is why it snapped.

well then, there's another item that you can add to your list of aftermarket parts you talked about making, quality shift linkage.

actually prototypes are supposedly being cut in hte next week or so for the first item we talked about - you're likely going to be one of my lab rats since they will fit your bike i though about the shift arm but since it does not look like it's a common problem I don't see an upside. it's really more about vortex's stupidity than yamaha's on this one.
