Stupid question...when technically is a cush drive worn out. My R1 has 38K on it...still original cush drive rubber so i'm replacing them before the next trackday since they are only $6 a piece but I thought...technically when are they worn out? They definetly aren't as tight as they once were. :moon:

Good question. I can't say I ever saw anything about when to replace them .

the only thing i've ever seen on them is if it's worn or damaged to replace it. i've never seen any kind of spec for play or anything. it's pretty much a judgement call i guess. i treat it like the cushions in a clutch basket. if there is play in them by hand you know it's going to be worse under stress. for all they cost i just replace them while i have it apart.

a guy that works for me has a shadow 750 and his is worn pretty bad, like at least 1/4" of play in it. i told him to take it back to the shop because he just bought the bike and they told him that was normal, it's supposed to be like that. :wtf: i'd say that is pretty excessive & advised him not to go back to that shop for repairs.

well reading on the forums like the R1-forum...some models/wheels are supposed to have a little play...not alot of play just a little.

my R1 does not have any play, neither does the 675 - i would think that play in there would not be a great idea.

on the R1 forum they were talking about the R1 LE from a few years ago that had the marcheseni wheels...they designed play in the system.
