So i have had this truck for 9 years and put 120K on her, it has only had a few minor problems and maintenance things done to it. Last week it let me down, i got a nasty misfire. i checked the codes and decided it needed new plugs, put them in along with new coils, cleaned up the throttle body and expected it to run like a champ.
It didn't, after checking it out and getting frustrated i took it to the dealer to get it diagnosed on their machine.
Found out it had a dead cylinder #4 has 0 compression. looks like i might be pulling the head or worst case, the engine.
The only upside is my dad is too sick to drive so i have been using his truck for the last few weeks.

well its just a broken valve spring. valves is still intact and appears to be ok but i think i am going to pull the head and replace it to be safe. It must have contacted the piston because this is an interference fit engine. The last thing i want is the valve being fractured and breaking off when hundreds of mile from home pulling my trailer. Looks like i will be busy the next few evenings and weekends. Justin, didnt this truck bail you out when yours let you sit.

hey so long as the piston is untouched you're golden. it's a PIA but could be a lot worse. get those heads ported and polished, angle job on the valves while you're at it we took my buddies M3 top end apart once, variable valve timing set up with dual overhead cams, 4v, and the good old German approach of why use 1 part when 13 will work just as well - that was a barrel of laughs... love the lager in the first pic
